I've seen these databases before, but this one (integrated with Google maps) put it in a whole new perspective. Scary as shit how many boxes there are near my house.

This is indeed interesting.

We get a list each quarter from the Sheriff's Office but it is listed alphabetically by last name which does make it hard to tell if people are actually near us...

I'm happy to see that the website appears to differentiate among the various types of crimes, at least a little bit. To me at least, there's a big difference in knowing that a guy on my street has committed a crime against children or rape, versus "other sex crimes" (which I'm assuming is going to be visiting or being a prostitute).

I thought I'd seen one of these map versions before, and I thought it showed more in the area.

Also, I noticed a slightly higher amount of "offense against children" in an area that's known to pretty much be a retirement area.

Huh. This always seemed like a creepy town, but there are only 9 offenders in town.

I believe that in some states public urination can be labeled indecent exposure which could lead to being required to register as a sex offender.

How can someone convicted of a sex crime against a child be allowed to live within walking distance to an elementary school?

Edit, from VA State Police site:
Are there any restrictions that an offender cannot live near a school or day care facility?

Effective July 1, 2006, and thereafter, a law passed that prohibited offenders from residing within 500 feet of a school or day care facility; however, if the offender resided at that residence prior to July 1, 2006, the offender can remain at that residence. If that offender moves from that location, he/she cannot move back to that residence.

You would think it would be more restrictive for those convicted of "indecent liberties with a minor under 15 years old"
