If I can't stand Sarah Silverman's show on Comedy Central, will I still like Jesus Is Magic?
GOD that show is horrible!

I don't get her at all. Not my type of comedy I guess.

You people don't know from humor.
I love her and the show.
Did you like Seinfeld? Curb your Enthusiasm?

No, you probably won't. Why would you even consider watching it if you hate the show so much?

No and No.
That show is one of the most amateurish shows I've ever seen... Horrible acting from everyone involved and just simply not funny.

Someone suggested the movie to me, and I just watched the show last night.
So Silverman acts like a 4th grader in the movie too? Or is it also badly acted?

The movie is mostly standup.

Ok, I'll keep it in my Netflix queue, then. I like what I've seen of Silverman's stand-up routines.
She may be like Louis CK... Good stand-up, but HORRIBLE TV show...

I downloaded her premiere show on the XBox360, just to see what it would look like and it was free. Couldn't stand more than 5 minutes of it. Maybe that's why it was the only show that was free.
The Sarah Silverman Show sucks so far. There were about three funny things in the first two episodes. I'm as big a fan of hers as there is, but the show sucks. I hope it gets better.
Jesus Is Magic is funny from start to finish. The skits and songs aren't great, but they don't drag it down. The stand-up parts are great. Her humor isn't for everyone, but the movie is her at the top of her game. If you don't like the movie you will never like her in anything. If you don't find the stand-up parts funny, turn off the sound and just look at her. If you still don't find anything you like you have no taste.

OMG- The Sarah Silverman Show is one of the funniest things out there.
(And for TB's questions, I was "meh" on Sienfeld and hate Curb Your Enthusiasm.)

I'm on the side of liking the show. I like the premise of her saying what's on her mind and wrapping up each episode with messed-up morals.

I loved Seinfeld, CYE, and also like Sarah's new show a lot.
I thought it was obvious that her new character is supposed to act like a 4th grader. Very selfish, self-involved, and oblivious to the feelings of others. In other words, a child.
Her simple and childish way of looking at life is the humor of the show. If you don't care for that, then it's not for you.
I have Jesus Is Magic ready to watch but haven't yet. I'm looking forward to it. :)

Do you have the DVD or did you TiVo it off a movie channel? If the latter, check out this YouTube clip that was one of the DVD extras. Easily one of the best "extras" ever:

Easily one of the best "extras" ever:
"Tim Allen played you."
Excellent. Loved it.

I love her and the show.
I seem to recall you quite liked the Aristocrats but I thought she was one of the only two funny segments in the Aristocrats. Don't know what that says about what you and I know about humor :D

I've decided her sister is hotter than she is.
The latest episode of The Sarah Silverman Program, "Positively Negative", was very good. The cop who's a pussy still isn't funny, but everything else in the episode was. I hope this is a sign of more good things to come.

Her humor is ethnically very Jewish -- much in the way early Mel Brooks or Woody Allen was, but in a post-modern way.
You don't have to be Jewish to enjoy it, or even to "get it." I enjoy listening to tapes of Richard Prior stand up routines from the early 70s. But I probably dont, and can't, enjoy them as much as a black person from that time did, because the humor is often truth, and it doesn't resonate with me.
I think Sarah Silverman's humor, not just this show, but elsewhere too, is much the same way. It's hard to explain, but it's who she is, and Whoopi Goldberg (who despite the name, probably isn't Jewish), doing the same material wouldn't be funny at all. (Nor would Sarah doing Whooppi's material).

Whoopi isn't funny doing Whoopi's material.

I agree. If you go to her show's page at Comedy Central's website. Look for the clip titled HIV test ... pretty funny.

I just watched the final episode of SS in which she meets black God. Excellent episode. Hiro from Heroes has a cameo as a store clerk.
Good stuff.
I've never found her to be funny, myself. But then that's just me, and I find a lot of things to be funny that other people don't, so I fully understand. :)

I watched the "DUI" episode yesterday (only the second Sarah Silverman I've seen) and I totally agree. :)
I'd boff Sarah, I'd marry that sister of hers.
