I know this may appeal to only the few Phoenix-area MSq members here, but Channel 3 will finally be going HD tonight with the Diamondbacks' game, and all news production will be in HD starting with GEAZ on Thursday.
Interesting note, once this starts - Channel 3 will hold the title for the most locally-produced HD content in the country. (May be the first truly independent/non-network affiliated station to go HD also, IIRC).
For those out of area, this is our second local news going HD - hopefully all others follow soon.
This kind of crept up on me, normally I'm on top of this kind of stuff: http://www.azfamily.com/hdtv/
Also, it's now (HD) carried on Phoenix Cox Cable (703) as well as National Geographic (722).

That's awesome! I'll have to invite Sunny's sisters over to watch teh DBacks in HiDef!
As an aside, Frank Camacho did a live-shot from my mom and Sue's front yard when they came back from getting married in San Francisco. That was an odd day... 3 different news stations interviewed them, and I played press secretary for them as they were driving back. The stations had somehow tracked me down trying to get ahold of them for interviews vbecause they saw a tiny interview they gave to CNN.

You know, I think I saw a mention of the D'Backs game at AVSForum.com in the Phoenix HD thread.
I don't personally know for sure that the game tonight is in HD, but based on what I'm reading there - someone knows that it is.
Based on what they've said in the local forum, they weren't going to budget for any HD games at all this year. Only after extensive talks with 3TV and Cox did they end up budgeting for HD starting with the game Apr 25. Apr 25 is the date KTVK-DT goes live on Cox Channel 703. Apr 26 is the date GMAZ, etc., go HD.
It looks like they reference another forum, so I don't know if there was other information in there after the fact.

KCAL in Los Angeles, which is not network affiliated, started broadcasting their news in HD last Saturday when they moved to a new facility. (Even before the move and the upgrade of the newscasts, they were broadcasting some Lakers and Dodgers games in HD.)
However, you may argue that they don't really count, since they're part of a duopoly with, and share facilities and equipment with, CBS-owned-and-operated KCBS.

I'm not at home right now so I can't check. Is it, or no?
I just thought from some other content in the AVSForum thread that "Diamondbacks TV" which contracts to FSN/Channel 3 may have changed their minds as far as providing the game in HD.

Recorded the first hour, and yes it was in High Def. At the end of GEAZ they were promoting the HD, and said they'll be offering 30 (home) games in HD this summer.

Philly now has three local news channels in HD. KYW (CBS) in 1080i, and WPVI (ABC) and WTXF (Fox) in 720p. KYW just launched the night of the NCAA basketball championship game. Mostly, though, this means that the studio is in HD. Outside shots usually aren't. I know that on WPVI, their sports highlights aren't in HD even though the original game broadcast was in HD. And, when they replay the 11:00 news at 1:30 a.m., the replay isn't in HD.

That is good news. Sure wish Fox 10 would go HD. I prefer their newscasters, but hate the fact it's not in HD.

Am I the only person that just can't see the point of local news being HD? Sports? Yeah. Discovery Channel? Heck yeah. Some wannabe journalist reporting on the 3 car pileup on 131 caused by a cow in the road? Eh.

Here's one reason I like the news in HD here in Philly.
