View Full Version : What changes do you expect to Debate once the transfer is done?

Title says it all. What do you think will change? Do you think participation will go up or down or remain the same?

Mind you we're in beta now, but we still had a good number of quality contributions so I'm pretty optomistic.

At least some people won't bother to make the change. Most will, though, and it'll largely be more of the same (which, for me at least, isn't that bad).

Overall, though, if we stay out of Web S e n s e, it'll probably be a net add.

What was the impact Web S had on TCR?

What was the impact Web S had on TCR?The fact that it kept a lot of folks out at work because the whole site was blocked. This is a big part of the raison d'être for Main Square - hide the bad stuff to keep it from getting blocked.

Brad has it right. Basically, the active user community was significantly impacted because people couldn't connect during their primary web-surfing time (aka during work hours).

Ok, but back at the old place, some of the most active threads were the NSFW threads.

Is that permanently gone here or is it just "hidden" better?

Uh, the OP was asking about changes to Debate, not changes in general.

To answer your question, though, NSFW content is not permitted in most of the forum. However, there is an adults-only area available upon request to subscribers.

(smacks self upon back of head)

My bad.

I'll figure this whole Internet thing out, eventually.

I know that I hope to be more active in the debate forum. The TCR incarnation was way too chaotic and insulting...

And Time Magazine called YOU a 'Person of the Year, this year!"
SHEESH!

Well, since there hasn't been a "How regBarc got it wrong" thread started (yet) I'd say purty good. :)

I thought we used WebSense here (I know we use a blocker), yet I've had no problems getting to TCR, though I can't get to TC.

Having a subscription to Websense simply lets you choose to block certain categories. TCR fell into the "adult site" category, so it was most commonly blocked. TCF (as well as presumably MSq at some point) is a "chat site" and is less commonly blocked since companies like to let their companies peruse vendor support and other technical community discussion forums, which tend to get lumped together.

Personally, I'm wondering what the "user reputation system" is and what effect it will have.
