Complimenting Marc's time off thread (http://www.mainsquare.org/showthread.php?t=216)...
...does this event start setting in at your place of work around today?
It's that way here it seems. Everyone mentally checked out yesterday afternoon, and those of us that didn't can't really do much with no everyone else traveling or not being here.
(Probably explains why I'm spending so much time here.)

I didn't schedule any client site visits today or tomorrow but that is because most folks have checked out early.
I'll likely work sporadically through the long holiday weekends because I just have stuff to do.

Yes, I have had patients scheduled for 1 on 1 appointments yesterday and today and only one has shown up out of 9 appointments. It makes for an easy day but it also makes the day seem longer.

We were given an official "Hey, go home after noon". I would guess at least 50% of the company is burning excess leave anyway and will be off until after New Years.

Somewhat, but next week will be even ghostlier.

Yes, but oddly we have a celebration for making a milestone tomorrow afternoon from 3 to 5... Wha..!?
It's starting to be fairly ghostly around here. I'm taking off tomorrow and Tuesday. Some people took off this week and won't be back until the 2nd or so.

Merc, seriously?!? Please tell me that you suspect it's a trick to free your schedule so they can release you at 3. Of course, that is already too late to miss the traffic as everyone else heads home or to the malls.

That's probably someone's idea of spreading holiday spirit by ensuring people "have a light Friday."
...not realizing of course that everyone wants to be gone one or two days prior.
I was just scheduled for an afternoon meeting at 1 PM. I went to the conference room, only to be booted by someone else who had just done a last-minute reservation on the room for another function.
So, whoever scheduled my meeting un-reserved the room, but just assumed no one would try to attend anyay - so they didn't bother formally cancelling it.
EDIT: (I was forwarded the meeting series in Outlook, and it was cancelled - but as I wasn't on the original distribution - I didn't get the cancel.)

Nope. Milestone was reached this week and celebration scheduled. I watched aghast assuming someone would suggest Thursday or "just after the holidays". Alas. No.

I normally don't take vacation this time of the year because being at work is actually a vaction.
this year that's changing a bit. I'm moving starting saturday. I'll be out tomorrow, next wednesday & thursday. But I am working next tuesday & friday (not that i'll be actually working though).

Tomorrow is the office gift exchange then everyone is free to leave at 3 p.m. if they wish.
That said, I gave everyone in my department an ipod today as a Christmas/thanks for your hard work gift so their productivity was about zero even though they were in the building.

A big chunk of IT is off now, many until after the 1st. I'm actually picking up a lot of extra shifts over the next week and a half covering for others.
I work helpdesk @ a hospital, so I wasn't expecting it to be any slower than normal tonight, but boy was I wrong... it's been totally dead.
No tickets in my queue, officially we're 1/2 day off tomorrow, and this week has been kinda dead anyway (some people took off for hanukkah).
No changes this weekend, heck, no one is even available for on-call.
I'm just going to work for 1 meeting and then going to the city to meet up with splendid and a friend and we're going to have more than a few beers.
Going to work for an hour or so, screw off. Then a bunch of us are going to bar for lunch (we are drinking it).

In my department, there'll be a good amount of people there up until about 3:30-4:00 Sunday (not me, but I'll be there Saturday), but I have a feeling the rest of the building will be pretty sparse starting midday Friday.

Wow. I was weighing working remotely last night. I came just in case anyone would be looking for me.
I obviously made the wrong choice.
At least it will be a short day.

Damn! I came in today with Thing 4 and NO ONE was here on my side of the building... One guy from my dept just showed up and he brought his kid too. I guess he has the same idea to go shopping after our early release. I think I'll go tell him to get out of here now if he can.

I think I'm the only one in my building today. Very peaceful.

Went to lunch yesterday and got a call from the wife. "Don't go back to work today and tell them yoiu can't be in Friday, either!" I think to myself, GREAT, someone died or is in the hospital.
Nope, our Strep-Tests we took Monday night came back positive (48hr growth kind). Thing2 and I have Strep (wife is getting over it now). Called the boss, let him know and asked if he'd like me to come in. NO! was my answer, so I am gettin' me a 'lil 4-day weekend!
Does this make it a Ghost-Town? Not really, but next week we'll have our CS manager off, so it may be rather barren, I think I'll get MORE than m,y fair-share of extra work to do...

Came in first shift yesterday and today to have the office party and try to do some work. Boss came around at noontime and said "I think now's a good time to go home". Only problem was I wasn't finished with my testing (it wasn't cooperating so I had to reboot it every time I gave it a static shock) so I stuck it out another hour.
