According to this AP article (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gSpyTv1U27e510x_TtEhArmS9bIwD8VDFEE01), Oklahoma Representative Sally Kern was recorded saying many anti-gay things that have brought her much condemnation.

"The homosexual agenda is destroying this nation, OK, it's just a fact," Rep. Sally Kern said recently to a gathering of fellow Republicans outside the Capitol.

"Studies show no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted, you know, more than a few decades. So it's the death knell in this country.

"I honestly think it's the biggest threat that our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam, which I think is a big threat," she said.A "video" which plays the recording while various response pictures are shown is available from YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFxk7glmMbo).

Ah, more hysterical historical inaccuracy. When Rome fell it'd been a Christian empire for over a century and a half, people. I think even browsing conservapedia (http://www.conservapedia.com/Main_Page) would turn up that fact.

And I often wonder why such folks all worried about what history shows us never bother to focus on more recent times than 2000 years ago. For example, noticing what has tended to happen to political movements in this country that seek to deprive other people of their right to equal treatment under the law, and that derive their power from perpetuating ignorance and bigotry.

Keeping women down didn't work, and now hardly anyone can understand why it was ever that way. Keeping blacks down didn't work, and now you're considered a knuckle-dragging throwback if you haven't renounced it.

Keeping gays and lesbians down? Oh yeah, this time it'll work?

But studies have shown it. How can you argue with that?

Funny how the only time that Oklahoma legislators become interested in science is when they get the idea that it might justify their homophobia.

But studies have shown it. How can you argue with that?Easily. I would say "what studies are these?", and then they'd hem and haw and try to change the subject to people marrying dogs and datsuns.

My first car was a datsun. 300zx. I loved that car. I'd marry it if I could

You know, I grew up in Oklahoma. I love the state. But, honestly, I feel that the people that speak like this are a vocal minority. Unfortunately, there are redneck, ignorant enough patches of people that they get voted into office.

I played lots of softball with gay people. I never once saw anyone treat them terribly, or be rude to them, or act homophobic.

The problem is that it IS in the middle of the bible belt, and the Southern Baptists have a massive hold on the state.

When people come out and say stuff like this, it makes me ashamed of that state. I still consider Oklahoma my home, even though I haven't lived there for 13 years. I'm about to go back there and visit.

My parents' neighbors, who live behind their home, are a gay couple. They have a beautiful house and great gardens (my mom is big on gardens). Their bathroom overlooks their backyard, so we can see it from my parents' backyard. We were sitting out one night, drinking beer, when they went to go take a shower together. They have these glass blocks as a window, so you can't see anything but vague figures. We sat there, and watched, and enjoyed their closeness as a couple (not from a pervy point of view, nor in a negative way). Mom lamented that they were putting their house up for sale. She loved what they did with the gardens and was fearful that someone would come in and ruin it all.

So, while you hear about people making stupid statements to the press, and someone from Oklahoma has done that twice this week, don't think that they are all that way, because they aren't.

what exactly is the homosexual agenda anyway?

imo, it's "legitimizing" the gay lifestyle, allowing gays to marry, get benefits, and to be treated fairly (i.e. being included in discrimination-type laws/groups, etc.)

many people object to that agenda, and want to see gays treated as 2nd class citizens. every one of the Presidential candidates, for example, is against one part of the "gay agenda", which is legitimate marriage for gays.

I believe their eventual is to recruit and convert our upstanding straight American youth.

That's why they're so angry that they can't be boy scout troop leaders.

The largest issue I have with Kern's diatribe is her use of hyperbole to "prove" her point. It's one thing to argue facts or opinions, but it's completely another to use unsubstantiated "facts" as a basis for one's argument. She might as well have added that she confirmed this information on Snopes, since that seems to be the current trend.

I take similar offense to the messages denouncing Obama for being Muslim and never saying the Pledge of Allegiance when they aren't true. However, the truth is rarely as convincing as a good story.

You know, gays are infiltrating city capitals. Did you know, Eureka Springs, anybody been there? Have you heard that the city council of Eureka Springs is now controlled by gays? There are some others, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kensington Maryland, Vermont, Oregon, West Palm Beach, Florida and lots of other places in Florida. What’s happening?

Wow, she forgot Gaytropolis and Homoville.

It's really shocking to me that there are still people in the world who will take the above paragraph as some kind of call to action. As if gays are actually puppetmasters pulling the strings of the freely-elected councilmembers of these cities.

Let's see: from another thread, we have the government pulling the strings of the black man, and now we have the gays pulling the strings of the government... So, are gays racist?

what exactly is the homosexual agenda anyway?

The Homosexual Agenda

8:00 a.m. Wake up. Wonder where you are.

8:01 a.m. Realize you are lying on 100 percent cotton sheets of at least a 300 count, so don't panic; you're not slumming.

8:02 a.m. Realize you are actually in your own bed for a change. Wake stranger next to you and tell them you are late for work so won't be able to cook breakfast for them. Mutter "sorry" as you help him look for his far-flung underwear. You find out that you tore his boxers while ripping them off him last night, so you "loan" him a pair of boxer-briefs, but not the new ones because you never intend to see him again.

8:05 a.m. Tell the stranger, whose name eludes you, "It was fun. I'll give you a call," as you usher him out the door, avoiding his egregious morning-breath.

8:06 a.m. Crumple and dispose of the piece of paper with his telephone number on it when you get to the kitchen.

8:07 a.m. Make a high protein breakfast while watching the Today show. Wonder if the stories you've heard about Matt Lauer are true. Decide they must be.

8:30 a.m. Italian or domestic? Decide to go with three-button Italian and the only shirt that is clean.

8:45 a.m. Climb into red Z4 and try not to look too much like Barbie driving one of her accessories as you pull out of your underground parking. Revos or Armanis? Go with Revos.

9:35 a.m. Stroll into office.

9:36 a.m. Close door to office and call best friend and laugh about the guy who spent the night at your condo. Point out something annoying about best friend's boyfriend but quickly add "It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks, just as long as you love him."

10:15 a.m. Leave office, telling your secretary you are "meeting with a client." Pretend not to notice her insubordinate roll of her eyes (or the cloying "poem" she has tacked to her cubicle wall).

10:30 a.m. Hair appointment for lowlights and cut. Purchase of Aveda anti-humectant pomade.

11:30 a.m. Run into personal trainer at gym. Pester him about getting you Human Growth Hormone. Spend 30 minutes talking to friends on your cell phone while using Hammer Strength machines, preparing a mental-matrix of which circuit parties everyone is going to and which are now passe.

12:00pm Tan. Schedule back-waxing in time for Saturday party where you know you will end up shirtless.

The Homosexual Agenda (continued....)

12:30 p.m. Pay trainer for anabolic steroids and schedule a workout. Shower, taking ten minutes to knot your tie while you check-out your best friend's boyfriend undress with the calculation of someone used to wearing a t-back and having dollars stuffed in their crotch.

1:00 p.m. Meet someone for whom you only know his waist, chest and penis size from AOL M4M chat for lunch at a hot, new restaurant. Because the maître d' recognizes you from a gay bar, you are whisked past the Christian heterosexual couples who have been waiting patiently for a table since 12:30.

2:30 p.m. "Dessert at your place." Find out, once again, people lie on AOL.

3:33 p.m. Assume complete control of the U.S., state, and local governments (in addition to other nations' governments); destroy all healthy Christian marriages; recruit all children grades Kindergarten through 12 into your amoral, filthy lifestyle; secure complete control of the media, starting with sitcoms; molest innocent children; give AIDS to as many people as you can; host a pornographic "art" exhibit at your local art museum; and turn people away from Jesus, causing them to burn forever in Hell.

4:10 p.m. Time permitting, bring about the general decline of Western Civilization and look like you are having way too much fun doing it.

4:30 p.m. Take a disco-nap to prevent facial wrinkles from the stress of world conquest and being so terribly witty.

6:00 p.m. Open a fabulous new bottle of Malbec.

6:47 P.M. Bake Ketamine for weekend. Test recipe.
7:00 P.M. Go to Abercrombie & Fitch and announce in a loud voice, "Over!"
7:40 P.M. Stop looking at the photographic displays at Abercrombie & Fitch and go to a cool store to begin shopping.
8:30 p.m. Light dinner with catty homosexual friends at a restaurant you will be "over" by the time it gets its first review in the local paper.

10:30 p.m. Cocktails at a debauched gay bar, trying to avoid alcoholic queens who can't navigate a crowd with a lit cigarette in one hand and a Stoli in a cheap plastic cup in the other. Make audible remark about how "trashy" people who still think smoking is acceptable are.

12:00 a.m. "Nightcap at your place." Find out that people lie in bars, too.

You're absolutely correct. I usually do that; it just was an oversight this time.

Although I'm sure no one would have mistakenly tried to give me credit for it. I'm clever, but not that clever. ;)

Really?

I didn't like parts of that - Phelps and his minions seems a lot less freaked out than I expected almost like it was a game rather than sincere - it almost humanized Phelps too much... I wonder if there is any chance they do this for money or attention rather than belief.

He's an old man, what did you expect him to do, run away crying that he was gonna catch a case of the queers? He was afraid of them even touching him. Someone should have kissed him, or at least pinched his butt.

I don't know ... his clan has been one of the few groups I could just hate unreservedly - I don't like thinking of him with a sense of humor and playing a game and the girl trying to sing along with Moore's group.
