Well, there. They turned around and decided to lay off my boss and give me an extension of "Maybe one month, maybe forever". What the hell kind of bullshit is that?
Further, my boss' layoff is two weeks before mine was to happen. Meaning that I was never going to see the severance package. Wasn't a fortune, but it was 6 months pay, paid over six months not in lump.
I'm not waiting for the axe to fall. I rode the last company to the ground and I won't do it again. Resume is almost complete and will be posted around tonight. Screw it.

There are conditions that are attached to the severance package. Performance goals that my boss has to sign off on. In addition, El Presidente, as I call him, has a serious case of project creep and didn't want to offer me the package in the first place. So, two weeks out, HE will be taking over the signing off on the package. He is sure to find something he doesn't like as he didn't want to offer it in the first place.
QED.

Sounds like it's time to get your lawyer on board so you have the proper documentation when they try to screw you.
Unless the company is about to go BK, in which case it's best to cut your losses.

I'm a Senior System Administrator. I can work on any type of system. Since I've been here, I've been effectively the CIO, negotiating contracts and overseeing installation of systems and maintaining said systems.
Edit:
Noticed what ruidh (http://www.mainsquare.org/member.php?u=553) said, the answer there is it's the law of diminishing returns. It would cost a whole bunch of money to take these guys to court if they tried to screw me over. I don't have a whole lot so I'm willing to move on instead.

Sorry to hear about that. My college roommate had a contract position in IT a few years ago. After 6 months, he was renewed for 3. After 3, renewed for 1. Then it went by week. Finally, for several months, they were telling him on Friday morning if they would renew him for the next week. It drove him crazy, but he was unable to find another job until they finally just let him go.
