Rather obligatory message board thread but I always enjoy getting some good recommendations
I am just now starting "A Confederacy of Dunces" which I have heard fantastic things about but have never read.

"This Thread" by Scoblitz. Off to a slow start, but should pick up as most-all of his threads do. :)
Right now I am on a Brain-Candy Book "The Bourne Ultimatum" just haven't had the time to finish it off. Once I am done (and seeing no extra Free-time to read), I'll probable pick up more less thinking, more entertaining 'Brain-Candy' Books.
OH, I DID read "Barbie and the 12 Dancing Prioncesses" tonight. A REAL page-turner, that one! Should you have a 7 year old little girl who needs a Bed-Time story read, it comes highly reccommended. ;)
"The Best Way to Save for College 2007: A Complete Guide to 529 Plans" by Joseph Hurley. It is even less exciting than it sounds.

For work: Margaret Mitchell and John Marsh: The Love Story Behind Gone With the Wind by Marianne Walker (I am actually enjoying this book a lot - glad it is a fun read)
For fun: Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman.

"Forty Words for Sorrow" by Giles Blunt. It's a police procedural set in Canada. So far, it's quite good.

I read this book a few years back. I've never laughed so hard in my life. At the time I was working in an ad agency so many of the situations mirrored life at that agency.
I'm currently reading "Son of A Witch" the follow up to "Wicked"

I read the two Dexter books (on which the Showtime series is based). There's a third coming out in 2007.
The first book shows me the differences between the T.V. show and the book, the second book gives me more info.

Good book... and if you haven't already, watch or Tivo the Everest 6 part series that's currently on The Discovery Channel.
My dear wife got me a book on the building of ESPN for Christmas that I'm looking forward to reading.

Just finished My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Piccoult last night. Not sure what's next, but I'm thinking it may be one of those Evelyn Wood speed reading books.
Highly recommended: Kite Runner (I forget the author) -- I read it earlier this year. It was one of those books that I slow down reading at toward the end because I don't want it to end.

Make sure you read his early stuff. I liked them, as brain candy books go. Later on he got so damned formulaic, and put a cameo of himself in every book, and it got really annoying. His early stuff was good though.

I just started reading "Goodnight Nobody" by Jennifer Weiner. Great, light vacation fare. Her books are fast and funny, and so a level above the grist you normally find of that ilk.
And I totally agree with daniellopi on "The Kite Runner" - amazing book!

The Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony - One of my all-time favorite series. I'm currently on book four, Wielding a Red Sword.
That's one of my favorite series as well. I got two of my nieces into reading them. One ended up asking for them all as a Christmas present a couple of years back. I'm so proud. (especially given light of the fact that she wasn't a reader until I turned her on to reading Harry Potter. After that, I kept funneling books to her, until she started asking for them on her own.)
I'm currently rereading Skinny Dip by Carl Hiaasen. I've got His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman sitting on my desk, but I haven't started reading it yet.

Does he actually wrap things up and explain what's going on? I felt like I got burned on his earlier Hyperion series, and when I read the reviews of Ilium it sounded like it was only half a novel as well.

I read that on the plane to Vegas! It was fun, but I didn't enjoy it as much as her earlier ones. Good in Bed is still one of my absolute favorite books.

Yes! A really fun read, I've enjoyed Hiaason's books.
I'm reading American Prometheus, a biog of Robert Oppenheimer. Fascinating reading, although it's not fast.
Got some other reading going, "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" by Tucker Max, basically a rehash of his web site, funny stream of consciousness stories about drinking and sex, "Cadillac Beach" by Tim Dorsey, which is kinda like Hiaason's books on Florida with a wacky crowd, James Elroy's "The Cold Six Thousand", and John Feinstein's "Next Man Up", which is a season in the life of the Baltimore Ravens. If you're any kind of an NFL fan, this is a must read.
I just finished Spook, by Mary Roach, which is a scientific look at the afterlife. Humorous and an interesting read, not as good as Stiff, her previous book on cadaver research.

I really enjoyed them but I read the last book first so I kinda had an idea of how things turn out. I felt the first two were really good but the last got a little old fast.
Actually I just finished supremacy so I had to go to the book store tonight to pick up something to read on the plane tomorrow.

Really, really good book. I like Simmons.
For those who like something a little...different, I just finished reading the Kushiel's Legacy trilogy, by Jacqueline Carey
The protaganist/heroine is a professional masochist, it's sort of set in Europe in semi-medieval times, sort of sword-and-sorcery type thing, but very well done, and the writer has either done a LOT of research, or she's lifestyle, because she's got the masochist/sadist dynamic *down*. Excellent, and I'd recommend it for anyone who likes fantasy books, who can handle/enjoy graphic descriptions of D/s scenarios.

Currently reading 'The Fountainhead' by Ayn Rand, for the 6th or 7th time in as many years. I get something new every time I read it.
I also enjoyed Jennifer Wiener's book 'Good in Bed' recently. She also wrote 'In Her Shoes' which was turned into a movie starring Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette with Shirley MacLaine. I plan to enjoy more of her novels in the near future.

Six degrees of separation - I know someone who knows Jennifer Wiener. :) I thoroughly enjoyed Good in Bed, In her Shoes was pretty good (still haven't seen the movie)...but does she have more books out or coming soon??
I really want to read Johnny Cash's two autobiographies, just have to see if the library has them before I find them cheap online.
