A well-known CNN reporter has been arrested in New York's Central Park with drugs in his pocket, a rope around his neck that was tied to his genitals, and a sex toy inside his boot.
Richard Quest - who is known for his boisterous and quirky style - was arrested at 3.40am on Friday, almost three hours after the park's 1am closing time.
He was initially arrested for loitering, the New York Post said. However, a search by police uncovered the oddly configured rope, a sex toy inside Quest's boot, and a small bag of methamphetamine in his left jacket pocket, the Post said.
It wasn't immediately clear what the rope was for, the paper said.
Quest, 46, confirmed the contents of the bag by saying, "I've got some meth in my pocket". He later agreed to six months of drug counselling in exchange for the charges being dropped, provided the therapy was successful. He was arrested early Saturday morning. This story was posted early Monday morning. How could he have made any sort of deal in between those two times? Would he even have been arraigned on the weekend? The whole story is fishy.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. :D

I'll say.
Am I the only one who's never heard of this guy? I don't watch much tv news.

He was arrested Friday morning at 3:40am. The judge saw him Friday afternoon.
Also, when they say he had a sex toy in his boot, they mean it in the British sense... the trunk of his car.

I recall a movie that involved the same location, attachment point and prop.
A couple of people were kidnapped, restrained and stood on the bridge in Central Park. Ropes were attached to their members and rocks attached to the other ends of the rope. To their terror the rocks were dropped off the bridge. The kidnappers punchline? the length of the ropes was a few feet longer than the height of the drop.

Isn't that from the scene in Old School?

Thank you for clearing that up. I couldn't quite imagine the kind of toy he might be carrying around with him by his ankles.
That said, why did they search his car, or did he voluntarily open up his trunk to get something, or maybe put the rope away, and that's when they found it?

Is anyone else reminded, for some reason, of the Monty Python sketch "Story Time"?
Eric Idle: With a melon?

Isn't that from the scene in Old School? The annoying thing is I can't even remember what genre of film is was - comedy or dark - let alone the name - but I think it pre-dates Old School (not that I have seen Old School - they could have recycled the scene).
(but I think the set-up beats water-boarding)

It absolutely happened in Old School. I seem to remember a twist. While the ropes were too long, one hit a manhole cover and fell in, thus making it no longer too long. :)

Seann William Scott sure can pick his scripts, can't he?

It also happened in the 1979 film Wanderers with Ken Wahl.

When they found the meth on him, that was probably enough probable cause to search his car.

I'm still not sure why people think it was the trunk (boot) of the car instead of foot wear. If he's gay and into ropes there is a good chance he was wearing boots.

I've seen this guy on CNN. I think it's fitting that he had meth on him, because he always seemed pretty hyper on camera. He's the London business reporter.
Some other reports state that he was on his way home from a party. I guess that (sort of) explains the rope?

Maybe because the original poster linked to a version of the story on an Australian web site? The original version from the New York Post (http://www.nypost.com/seven/04192008/news/regionalnews/kinky_news_networkcnns_quest_a_very_knot_107174.ht m) says "boot," so I think we can be pretty sure it was in his footwear. (Besides, who drives to Central Park...even at 3:40 A.M.?)

did anyone else see 'Butt' instead of Butt, err, Boot?
I owuld have expected it to say they found the toy in his (Left or Right) Boot, as there are almost always 2...

Or we can be pretty sure that there was some lazy reporting going on at the NY Post.
Or we can be pretty sure of both. :)

I kinda did too. I think the thought progression was: boot = trunk = junk in the trunk = butt. Oops.
