The escalating situation in Iraq, Israel threatening to use nukular weapons on Iran, US air strikes against Somalian targets, etc.

Do you think we're heading for WW3?

No. The very worst it could get is U.S.+Israel versus Iran and Syria. That's not a "world war". Not that it wouldn't majorly suck, both for the innocent people of those nations and for our desire to liberalize the Middle East to drain the swamp of extremism and terrorism.

I'd say the sprawl of 24-hour news talking head format keeps itself going by planting FUD like this.

If you look back historically, the "world" has had a pretty constant level of hostilities going on.

It's just now, we (as a nation) seem to be willing to wade in it.

It seems this comes around every few months............

Like Priller said, it would sux to be involved in it, but anyone who compares the conflicts we are involved in right now should be forced to do an indepth study of WWI and WWII.........it was as close to "hell on earth" as any had ever (and I hope never again) seen.

No. (not a 'conventional' one)
Should we step on a hornets nest and set off all of the middle east against the US, all we'd really need to do would be pull out and let them buzz.
The US is isolated enough and most countries don't have the ability go get here to cause damage.

Europe (at least Western) is too stable, has strong allies and is itself economically strong.

Africa is also too isolated to invade and too poor to go anywhere. (Except on itself)

Australia. Too isolated and too bust drinking Beer and puttin things on the Barbie.

China. Let's not piss in Chinas Cheerios too much. Sure we irk them they irk us, but they are nowhere near as volitile as the middle east. If any country could start one, it'd be China. They are close enough, strong enough and would have the best shot at it.

Antartica. Pet's not pee in the Penguines porridge. Those things are dangerous! :)
