SOAK: Best way to get an expired domain (x-post)

If you're an XKCD fan, you probably remember the strip about how if you can think of a kind of porn, it exists on the internet, and if it doesn't it's practically your duty to make it exist.

The joke was that there were no websites about naked girls with guitars in the shower, so they decided they needed to make it happen. The name they picked was wetriffs.com, and as part of that joke, he really registered the domain name and members of the XKCD forum provided pictures (with various levels of coverage) of people with guitars in the shower.

Anyway, I just noticed that domain has expired, and unless the owner pays a fee on top of the renewal, it will get added to the pool.

Lets say I want that domain. How would I get it?

You wouldn't. There are too many companies out there who make their business buying up expired domains, and one of them will most likely get it.

GoDaddy offers a service where you can pay ~$20 to reserve a domain name so that when it becomes available, it'll try to get it for you... but no guarantees, other than you're $20 poorer.
