Meh.
It was after midnight on the East Coast, and she wasn't using it within the context of describing sexual activity or content. Given today's climate, I won't be surprised if NBC gets dinged, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it passes.
Either way, my guess is no repercussions to the cast member.

I dunno, seems to indicate a distinct lack of professionalism on her part... not necessarily that she cursed, but her "oopsie daisy" expression afterwards. That gaffe has got to be embarrassing for her, on her first night as a regular cast member. If she's sloppy again, I'll bet she won't be lasting long on the show.

Yeah, it's not just that she slipped, it's that she drew attention to it. Bad discipline as a performer, and bad improv instincts. She's got to be on notice.

Yeah, cause, you know, Fallon and Sanz never broke character. ;)

Oh please. Fallon and Sanz broke character from time to time after establishing themselves as bedrocks on the show... and it was funny.
This gal's a virtual unknown, and this was her very first showing on SNL. She doesn't get the same pass.

Exactly. And breaking character is one thing. Looking like a deer in the headlights because you just dropped the F-bomb on national TV is a step beyond.
SNL has confirmed that her job is safe for now, but based on what I know of actors and improv comedians (having been both at one time), she won't be living this down for a looong time.

Her deer-in-headlights look was just a quick moment though, and she quickly recovered and finished out the skit. I don't think it was as bad as you guys are saying.
She got her crap together, and I frickin love her for it. :)

I saw it, and had my wife replay it to confirm what I heard. I'm surprised there weren't more slip-ups, as I've heard that that sketch contained the word "fricken" or "friggen" over 100 times.

...even more reason why slipping up and saying "fuckin" instead comes off as inexperienced and unprofessional, IMO.
I'm not being a prude here and saying the curse word bothered me. I'm just saying, that performers on that show have different rules to play by, and producer Lorne Michaels and NBC will certainly be watching this freshman Jenny Slate quite closely in the next few shows.

SNL fired two female cast members to make room for Slate and another newcomer. If they fire Slate, I wonder if they bring back one of the others.
Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch please. :2funny:

:)
It aired after 10 p.m. in all markets. Which means it's outside the enforcement purview of the FCC.
That's right. F-bombs (which are indecent but not, in and of themselves, obscene) are legal on TV after 10 p.m. and before 6 a.m. They're also legal all day long on Nickelodeon. Yet, we don't hear any in either venue. Perhaps that's proof enough that we don't need the FCC to ban them during the other hours of the day?

The distinction between "broadcast" TV where you can't curse or show nudity and "cable" TV where you can (even if basic cable mostly doesn't), is becoming more and more ridiculous.

I don't think Lorne will be all critical on her. They've done these "language close to the real thing" sketches before.
Remember Ana Gasteyer/Molly Shannon (replaced later with Rachel Dratch) doing a (NPR) "Delicious Dish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delicious_Dish)" with Alec Baldwin?
Ana Gasteyer kind-of almost dropped in a "Penis" in what should have been double-entendre; she was just a few letters shy of a graphic depiction of oral sex that wouldn't have been allowed on NBC.
I think if anything they'll realize they shouldn't have let the rookie attempt something that may invite something like this... maybe she screwed up during rehersals as well and people just assumed she'd be fine during dress and the live show.
They'll probably even figure out a way to poke fun at themselves next week... maybe a backstage scene or a Digital Short that has the new girl trying to pitch to Lorne some characters or sketch ideas that invite nothing but controversy... maybe Lorne can even finally decide to run with Laser Cats instead of her idea.

People on the other side of the issue agree with you. Of course, their solution is to ban cursing on cable.
