Its showing on HBO this month - and I do believe this is the first good movie I've seen made from a video game.

I thought the Resident Evil series wasn't too bad. Apparently there's a Hitman 2 in the works.

I didn't see Resident Evil because of video game to movie prejudice - I'll have to give it a chance.

IMO, Olyphant was a really poor choice, and they seemed to ignore most of the storyline of the game. It had some good parts, but seemed far outweighed by the crap in it.

Perhaps the difference is that i bought the game but never got around to playing it - I saw the movie as a stand alone and was impressed with Olyphant

That's very possible. As just a stylized action movie, it's not bad. It's got guns, it's got boobs, it's got slow motion. If there's no tie to the source material, what's not to like? :)
